R+R ZINE ON CONFLICT TRANSFORMATION
Created in the Spring through Summer 2025 by Marynil Munoz, Elvin Velasco, Bella Lyne, and Kristen Sison as part of Phase 2 of the Conflict Transformation in the Arts and Beyond project, stewarded by Greenhouse Theatre. Rooted and Rising Lab was 1 of 4 organizations part of this year long journey centered on building capacity around conflict and relational repair.
Conflict Transformation Zine
For the past year, Kristen and Bella have been participating on behalf of Rooted and Rising in a collaborative project on Conflict Transformation in the Arts and Beyond. The project, led by Greenhouse Theatre, brought together four organizations doing social change and arts based work to learn about conflict and prototype new ways to engage with conflict in our organizations and communities.

The project concluded on August 23rd and 24th with a two day convergence on the beautiful lands at the Children's Peace Theatre that brought together the four organizations with a broader community of learning and practice. Together, we learned from teachers and from one another and from the land, while reflecting on what we gained throughout the last year of conflict transformation work.

Conflict is a threshold
Conflict is a call to change, to grow, to let go
Conflict is a mirror, it challenges the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves
Conflict is an invitation to deepen relationship
Conflict is/as ceremony
Conflict can be met with Curiosity, Playfulness, Grace, Gratitude

Since March, Kristen and Bella have been working with R + R alumni Elvin and Marynil to prepare a zine bringing through our reflections on conflict and using art to integrate our learning. We shared the zine at the convergence as our offering towards the greater project of learning to transform conflict within the arts. The zine brings lessons and ideas about conflict together with personal reflections and experiences. we are excited to share it with you all and hope you can find something of value in it as you navigate your own conflicts.

It features interviews with all the project participants, project hosts, and researchers, including Bella and Kristen.
